Colorful Butterflies of Trinidad and Tobago

attractive red, black and white butterfly on shocking pink flower

The Latin name of this butterfly is Anartia amathia, it's very common both in Tobago and Trinidad.

I believe this is the male, I've read that the females have no red coloring.

Check out its interesting eyes!

This is a Gulf Fritillary.

The patterns on the body and head of the Gulf Fritillary are even more extraordinary than the colors of the wings.

This Gulf Fritillary is trying to get in touch with its inner child.

That's probably its inner child in the top left corner of the photo.

Of all the butterflies I saw, this one seemed like the most beautiful, unfortunately it wouldn't sit still long enough for me to get a good photo.
